The rules stated here will be used and overwrites those from FIRS and those that are not stated will be in accordance with the FIRS which can be downloaded.

The following list outlines some of the more relevant rules but players and coaches are advised to check the complete list from the file.

1. No off-sides.
 
2. Minor penalties:
a) 2 minutes duration or until goal is scored.
b) Coinciding minors must stay off full 2 minutes but teams play at strength (e.g. if penalties are awarded to both teams at the same time, teams continue to play 4 a side with penalized players in the box until stoppage of play).
 
3. Major penalties:
a) 5 minutes duration (serve full time even if goal(s) is scored).
b) 2nd major to same player = 5 minutes plus game misconduct.
 
4. Game Misconduct Penalties - Carry an automatic 1 game suspension.
 
5. Match Penalty - Suspension for the remainder of the tournament.
 
6. Referees - Two man system will be used.
 
7. Body Checking - No body checks allowed.
 
8. Fighting - Fighting will not be tolerated- Automatic Major + Game Misconduct 
 
9. Slapshots - Allowed but dangerous follow through (high stick) may be penalized for high sticking.
 
10. High Sticking - Deliberate or accidental contact of one’s stick above the shoulders of another player is considered a high stick.  Also, stickwork will be watched closely and poor/dangerous stickwork will be called.
11. Tied game - Games shall end in a tie if no winner must be determined.
If a winner must be determined: 5-minute stop time OT with three skaters followed by a shoot out if a winner has not been determined by the end of overtime. Penalties will be carried over into over time. 
 
12. Time out - Each team is permitted 1 one-minute time-out per game. The game clock shall stop during a time-out.

The following infractions will be penalized: (Note: This is a summary only, do check the FIRS rules.)

  1. Boarding/Body Checking – Automatic minor, major if dangerous
  2. Butt-Ending – Major
  3. Charging – Automatic minor, major if dangerous
  4. Checking from behind – Major
  5. Cross – Checking – Minor, major if dangerous
  6. Delaying the game – Minor
  7. Elbowing – Minor or Major
  8. Fighting – Major and game misconduct 
  9. High – Sticking – Minor, major if dangerous or match penalty if intent to injure.
  10. Holding – Minor
  11. Hooking – Minor
  12. Interference – Minor
  13. Kneeing – Minor, major if dangerous
  14. Spearing – Major or match penalty if intent to injure.
  15. Slashing – Minor or major if dangerous, (possible misconduct)
  16. Roughing – Minor (major if injury results)
  17. Match forfeit will result in a 1-0 walk over

Note: All the above minor penalties could be ruled as dangerous or intent to injure and receive a major penalty or misconduct.

OTHER INFORMATION

  1. Each team must have at least 4 skaters and 1 goalie to START a game. Failure to do so, will render a walk over to the opposition team with a win of 2 – 0.
  2. In case of absence of goalie, team player must substitute as a goalie. If not enough players, the game will be auto forfeited however play can continue as scrimmage if agreeable between playing teams.
  3. In case of heavy rain or other circumstances during game play. The games will be postponed. Subjected to Organizing Committee approval.
  4. In case of rain or wet weather, the tournament will be postponed to the weekend of 2-3rd Oct. If it is cancelled again in the weekend of 2-3rd Oct, the tournament will be cancelled. In case of cancellation of the original tournament weekend, for overseas players only, 50% of the Team Registration Fee will be refunded through the team administrative contact. Overseas teams receive the partial refund because they may be unable to extend stay for another weekend from the original date.
  5. Goalie & Players must be fully equipped or they will not be allowed to play. This includes Helmet, elbow guards, gloves, shin guards for players. (For those under 18 years of Age, it is advisable to wear helmets with full visor or cage.) 
  6. Team Coach or Captain must confirm their team roster prior to each game. All changes to roster must be consulted with Organizing Committee.
  7. Goalies and Players are not allowed to substitute for another team.
  8. All jerseys must have readable numbers on the back.
  9. Each team must bring a dark plus light colour jersey.  In case of colour clash the home team will wear black/dark.
  10. There will only be 1 trophy for the winning team. For which, it will be presented during the Finals. Trophy should be returned to CC for engraving after photo taking on the day of the finals.
  11. In compiling the results of pool play, games within the pool that finish tied, shall remain tied and points for each game awarded as follows:
    1. Two (2) points to the game winner
    2. One (1) point for a tie game
    3. Zero (0) points to the loser
  12. The placement of teams shall be according to the most number of points accumulated in round-robin play.  If after addition of  points, two or more teams are determined to possess an equal amount of points during pool play, the team’s position is determined as follows:

 

  • The victor of the head-to-head competition in the round-robin shall be awarded the higher placement position.
  • If a tie still results, the team with the lowest penalty minutes for the round robin games shall be used to determine position for the tied teams.
  • If a tie still results, the team with the lowest total number of goals-allowed for the round robin games shall be used to determine position for the tied teams.
  • If a tie remains, the team with the most goal differences during the round robin games will determine the group positions.
  • If a tie still results, the total of goals scored among the tied teams will determine their positions.
  • If teams are tied after applying the above criteria, a shoot-out will take place with 4 shooters and if after the first round, a tied still exists, additional shots will be attempted by each team under a sudden death format, allowing each team the same total number of attempts.
