Report for SNS January 2009 - Loop from BSP to Punggol Park

Report by Jon Wong
Skateline Instructor

Skateline welcomed 2009 with our first SNS of the year on the last Saturday of January. Ang Paos (Red Packets) were given out to registraints as a symbol of good luck in the year of the Cow.

Although it was also the 6th day of the Lunar New Year, but the response was still overwhelming, with more than 50 skaters showing up at our skating rink in Bishan Park. It was heartwarming to see many new faces, even visitors from overseas and some came as families to support the event. Skaters from SMU's SMUX skating club were present too.

We promptly set off at about 8pm, and the journey took us through the streets of Ang Mo Kio, Hougang and Buangkok. There were various slopes and road works that we had to deal with, but everyone had great fun climbing the uphills and speeding down the downhills.

It was encouraging to see many children who were skating very well and handling the obstacles and terrain beautifully at their young age.

We took about 3 hours to complete the entire journey, but the skate was satisfying, coupled by good weather. Everyone was exhausted, but that didn't matter, cause we all had a great time.

A great way to spend the New Year, and many wonderful memories to bring home.

Many thanks to the following SAVs on duty:
Eric Tay, Tjin Teik, Leonard & Edmund.
