Report for Inline Amazing Race cum Year End BBQ

Report by Jon Wong
Skateline Instructor

Skateline ushered the last event for the skating community for the year of 2008 with our first ever 'Inline Amazing Race'. Similiar to the popular game show from the US, we added a fresh element to it by doing it on skates!

Close to 30 skaters gathered outside SMU's main campus on the afternnoon of the 27th(Saturday) accompanied by our SAVs, and they were divided into teams to search for clues and slove riddles/puzzles around town.

Solving the clues together

They had the opportunity to skate and explore some of the historic monuments, structures and places of Singapore, as well as take some memorable pictures with them. Teams had to vie for time and try to complete the course in the shortest time, only the top 2 teams can emerge winners and win prizes.

Taking a picture together

After the event, a bus ferried the skaters to Bishan Park, where we had a major Skate Barbeque party at our skating rink in the evening. Instructors, Volunteers, Students who take lessons with us, event supporters and their friends & familes were invited for this BBQ.

Glorious Food

Besides doing the BBQ, skaters were free to skate in the rink. Skaters were seen playing hockey, doing freestyle and slides or simply just zipping round the rink as they juggle between the glorious food at the BBQ pit and skating. There was also a visual presentation of all the moments we had in our nightskates and events throughout 2008, which left a smile on our faces as we recollect the good memories.

Hockey Time

To top it off, we had a lucky draw for everyone that showed up, and 10 lucky people walked away with prizes ranging from skate accessories to skate apparels.

Winners

Skateline wishes to thank all the people who have supported us for the past year, and we hope that we have provided you with many wonderful skating experiences and memories. We would also like to thank the volunteers and staff for making the Amazing Race and the BBQ a huge success.

Let's look forward to more exciting activities in 2009!
