Active Ageing Carnival 2008 - Skating with Minister Lim Boon Heng
2 of our instructors had the honour of skating with Mr Lim Boon Heng, Minister to Prime Minister's Office, in the annual Active Ageing Carnival this year. The event was held over the weekend of the 23rd-24th of August outside Ngee Ann City, Takashimaya.
The aim of the event was to promote active living and lifestyle for the aged population, with many activities to offer. This year, Minister Lim decided to have a special entrance to the carnival by skating into the event ground. He started taking lessons from us in early August together with his staff from the Council for 3rd Age.
Over the 3 weeks leading to the event, our instructors, Mr Jon Wong and Mr David Ng taught Minister Lim and his staff how to start from the basics of standing and falling to gliding, stopping and turning. This is the 2nd time that Mr David Ng, our most senior instructor at the aged of 62 years old, is taking part in the carnival. He was featured in the last year's carnival as well.
Despite his busy schedule, Minister Lim was able to pick up the sport very quickly, and was ready for the Carnival when it arrived. Minister Lim wanted to set a good example for the aged population that if he can learn inline skating in 3 weeks at the age of 60 years old, so can them.
Skateline wishes to thank the Council for 3rd Age and Minister Lim Boon Heng and Minister Ng Chee Hao for the oppprtunity to coach them and participate in such a meaningful event.
